It is a custom in the Deep South (of the US) where I grew up to visit cemeteries. When I was a kid I used to tag along with my mother and sisters when they went to 'visit the graves.' At that time, being a little boy, I wasn't thinking much about death, but liked the serenity and the nice smell of gardenia and other flowers. I agree that death is just a part of life and that being aware of the fact that our years are numbered makes us want to live life even more fully. Nice poem.
