Not even made love, even with his eyes,
Now he stood guard in the trenches of war
While generals prepared their battlefield lies.

This is a poignant verse, I understand the effort required to compose words about those pure spirits who merely battled to protect their land or obeyed the orders of those tyrants who were merciless and murderers of humanity.

A great poem that you have written here with such an easy flow of words from the heart. The casualties of war is never good. My salute to the soldiers that have risked their lives for our freedom. For without a fight no freedom can be gotten. For my today they gave up their tomorrow. Very inspiring and loved your write!

excellent work David. They take our young men (almost babies) and shove them into war (hell) they really have never lived yet some will die.

Every war takes toll of the young. There are those who did not marry and those just married, all with a whole life ahead. They gave up their tomorrow for our today. Beautiful sonnet expressing our gratitude to them. Thank you.

The War claimed many lives and still we did not learn much from it. The terror of the 2nd War added to the woes of the past next. But the way the first world war stands for the glorification of true heros, the second world war could not except that it united the Axis member nations. A good write Mr David Wood.

Young men who had never even tasted marital bliss had to go to the war front at the call of duty and they fell dead fighting for their country. All their dreams were burnt and we fail in honouring these martyrs! A poem, reminding us how we are indebted to those great souls! !
