This is a love poem: love of his country and freedom to explore, to see its people and all facets of our country's life! Here, Walt Whitman celebrates freedom and the diversity of our country: 'AFOOT and light-hearted, I take to the open road, Healthy, free, the world before me, The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.' However, the poem is too long. Only in parts is it lyrical. So, unless carefully read, the message may not be clear.
