SOMETHING I LOOK AT-402
BY- SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

MY MOTHER
SANTI LATA MOHANTY

Shining with grace
so gentle and bright

A daughter of Krupasindhu
her guiding light.

Nurtured by Bhanumati's tender embrace

Taught by life
she walked with grace.

In Jalasarpada
her journey began,

Later in Rangoon
she grew with a plan.

A gifted singer
her voice so sweet

Tunes on the harmonium made hearts beat.

A scholar at heart
though degrees were none,

Mastering languages—Bengali won.

Odia and Hindi
she read and write with ease

Her knowledge profound meant to please.

As Raj Kishore's bride at just sixteen

Never alone
a perfect team.

Through trials and joys
they stood so strong

Years of devotion
lasting lifelong.

Prayerful heart
in faith she stood,

Anukul Chandra Thakur
her Guru so good.

Deeply inclined to the spiritual way

Many she helped
come what may.

A soul so pure
the same inside out

Peaceful and kind
of this there's no doubt.

Until May first
two thousand twenty

Remains her legacy—love in plenty.

(Santi Lata Mohanty, daughter of the late Krupasindhu Mohanty and Bhanumati Devi, was born in Jalasarpada, Naugaon, and raised in Rangoon. She was a talented singer and harmonium player. Although she did not hold a formal degree, she was conversant with Bengali, Odia, and Hindi, with a particularly commendable command of Bengali.

At the age of sixteen, she married Raj Kishore Mohanty who became her perfect companion. A deeply spiritual woman, she was devoted to her Guru, Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra and lived a life of unwavering faith. Known for her kindness she extended help to many in her community within her means. She remained true to herself, embodying sincerity in both her inner and outer life.

On May 1,2020, she departed for her heavenly abode, leaving behind a rich legacy of selfless service and spirituality.)
