Somerset Maugham
When he came to India
In 1936
To meet Maharishi Ramana
At his ashrama
In Tiruvanamalai
As a part of his spiritual quest
And fulfillment,
Comfort and solace
And the people he met,
The Indian rajahs, royals and administrators,
Places he visited
And the things he carried away with
As the tidbits of ideas,
But the outbreak of the World War
Did not let him come again
To get them materialized
In a novel format.
