A true and raw piece...that captures the nature of what this world has turned a blind eye to....Only snippets of such wars are captured by the civilians of this world...yet the truth..returns home with the endless body count of the full hearted lions of the field...fighting to protect the people of this world and to protect what they hold so dear to them.....the truth behind war will never be fully appreciated by many..but the families who are left childless..or parent-less by such a fight....thank you Alf for bringing this to many attention...this is a much needed share...for many to come to understand...what it actually takes to protect them in their busy lives....10++++

Words are inadequate to describe the sensitivity and emotional fabric that you have added to this heart wrenching write on a loss that is irreplaceable

Amazing write Alf. I am now so ashamed that I know nothing of what you write about but will correct that shortly. You have a gift for this type poem Alf and a Book about wars and the horrors and the tears and the banners held and beliefs would be a worthy project, just right of for your pen. Your Friend, Susan

Good write Alf. Funnily enough, I have just bought Wilbur Smith's new book - entitled - 'Assegai'. I have read a lot of his books all about South Africa, they are very interesting and paint a great picture of the land you speak of in your poem. I enjoyed reading this one enormously, very well produced. Love and hugs Ernestine XXX

Very touching Alf, lost my composure as we too lost a young friend and his dog..grief came to many. We must never forget to celebrate the life of the fallen soldier and keep his memory alive - look where the country is today.

Alf, this poem is gut wrenching and heart wrenching in every way. From 'tears raining from his eyes' is where I my eyes were filled with tears. The last stanza 'proud medals from a distant war, his life worth left to show, reminders of campaigns your fought for a land - he'll never know' brought home how patriotic your Father was. A superb write from a gifted Son honoring his Father's memory. 10 Karin Anderson

Words are inadequate-again-to give praise to this simply flowing, yet evocatively stirring emotional historical tribute you have so beautifully presented to us. Don't know about any other reader, but this must be followed up with research. My curiosity and ignorance (mine) need to be overcome and my mind further enriched.

an amazing tale of all that is lost in war, made me think and wonder what it would be like to have lost some in a war.
