Social Distancing Call Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

In the world of humanity
It's unheard of to stay away from each other
We are all tied to each other one way or the other
We have relationships that are dependent on our close interactions
We have companionships that are wholly intimate
We miss the hugs, kisses and the ecstasy of intimacy
We miss meeting each other at special places to share life experiences
We miss going out and having fun with our friends
We miss meeting other people and making new networks
We miss our "idling" in the streets of life
We miss bickering with each other over nothing
We miss travelling to wild exotic places
We miss all the bustle and hustle of big cities
We miss our freedoms
We miss our wilderness
It's a special order to keep ourselves secluded
And we have fully put ourselves into this tight crevice of life
We have embraced this humongous request
At all costs we have accommodated social distancing in our lives
We have done this exercise not out of fear
But out of Love, Hope and faith in each other
We have taken this unrealistic call and made it ours
We have gone against all reason and embraced our new reality
And for this I stand in awe of humanity
We are all standing on the pedestal of one of the greatest endeavour ever taken by humanity
And I am totally proud of the spirit of togetherness
I am fully satisfied with humanity
For this I continue to have hope
That my fellow colleagues, family and friends
Will continue to heed the message
And hold on to the altar of seclusion and be the sacrifice
To continue social distancing without flinching
To continue washing hands often
And most of all to continue caring for each other
Feeding the poor and the vulnerable
To be the best we can ever be
To be humanity
