Snow At Midnight Poem by Malabika Ray Choudhury

Snow At Midnight

it snowed yesterday night …all night!
opened my eyes at midnight,
and through the hazy glass of a window,
saw the shimmering snow falling!
falling, falling, falling!
uninterrupted, but mysteriously beautiful!
dark night tranquil sky, white ethereal snow -
I felt mesmerized!
peeped out the window a bit -
everything is wrapped in dazzling white! or gleaming silver!
the lawn, the rooftops, the chimneys,
the gorgeous rose-bushes, the lush willow spreading its branches,
one tall evergreen - decked like a queen,
with snow-pellets adorned like jewels from every leaf,
the cars in the driveway in deep slumber, blanketed by the silvery white stuff,
oh, in the morning, it's going to be hard work!

I long to walk in the snow, at midnight!
walk and walk and walk -
mesmerizing snow falling all around me,
dark canopy of a hushed sky over my head,
twinkling stars not visible tonight, but perhaps witnessing my solitary journey,
and gently guiding me to a blissful destination of my dream!
