Smoke Poem by Namita Rani Panda

Smoke

How bright were my days when you're shining splendidly in my sky!
The nights were brilliantly bright as if the festival of lights!
But you blew out the flame for the sake of your name and fame
Perhaps for you it's a mere game
Now there's no flame
Only smoke
That tortures and chokes!
Life is a dark dreadful dungeon without your love
I'm writhing in untold pain as a wounded dove
Your light was my crowning glory
Your warmth, my ever cherished victory
But now it's just a mere sad story,
I'm utterly dejected and extremely sorry
Now there is no flame
Only smoke
That tortures and chokes
The flame is suddenly extinguished
When you unexpectedly vanished
Like the sun that's abruptly eclipsed
But through my sooty glassy eyes I peep at my gray sky
Though now I'm a bundle of rejected trash
And my dreams, a handful of ash
An ember of hope sparkles beneath the heap of ash
And I wait for a flicker of your flash
Though there is no flame
Only smoke
That tortures and chokes
I gasp for a puff of fresh air
But only smoke
That tortures and chokes!
