Slumber Poem by Myrtle Thomas

Slumber

'night calls an empty song
hollow, lonely........................what I feared the most, hurt the least;
imagination conjures giants to shake us to our knees'

death is only sleep - - - - - - - - - -why fear
the night for no dreams nor thoughts exist
calamity far behind on pillows wet with tears
where there we all have trod, blind and bound
shackled in heavy chains somewhere in our heads
forged by desires of heated hearts until we close our eyes
and yet we grieve and mourn the day as dust....... to blow away
into eternal peace and rest- - - - - - as we tread the potter's clay

'while trust the Lord the Bible says,
but yet we see darkness in the walk of life'

lay me down to sleep............... until that blessed day
for Christ bled scarlet red to save a soul like me
trust beyond sight, let blossoms flower a burst of faith
to sleep in quiet peace........... in the mind of God
a time will come, it surely will........ as we awake to another time
as in joy we will greet each other in unity from perfect peace and rest

tranquil times of rest for these weary bones
will arise from the ashes and dust to see the.........Morning Star
