Sliabh Luachra His Nickname Poem by Francis Duggan

Sliabh Luachra His Nickname

He has lived in Australia since he was twenty three
And Sliabh Luachra he says he may never more see
From the Kerry Town that borders Cork of Rathmore
Next year in February he will be eighty four
Sliabh Luachra is the nickname that he is known by
And to talk of his heritage he is never shy
He has never returned to his east Kerry original Hometown
Where he used to live when his hair was light brown
In Warrnambool he has lived for most of his life
And he has never had children or a partner or a wife
The hair on his balding head is silver gray
And the years on him showing life works in this way
But he feels happy far south of where he went to school
Growing old in the City of Warrnambool.
