Sleepless Nights Poem by Varala Anand

Sleepless Nights

During sleepless nights
Awakening is an illusion
Sleep is a delusion

Dreams and tears
Impatience and impassivity
Sweep into mind

Eyes are closed
Thoughts are open,
In the midst of
Conscious and unconscious states
Body becomes pendulum

To knock down
The darkness around
The light never arrives

The sound of ‘lub dub' echoes
As background to the silence

Nights meant for comfort
Turns to be critical
Between a state of
Awake and asleep
Breaking all the states
The light appears in the east

Nights are countless
Dawn is just one
