Slavery To Productivity Poem by Kiran Pillai

Slavery To Productivity

Rating: 3.5

What is the purpose of profession?
Why do we need to work so much?
When there is not much to do anyways
And all work is to benchmark a leader.

We are working in intelligent times.
With ones who don't seem too intelligent.
I also struggle with intelligence a lot.
How to make sense of such a world?

We were trained to be intelligent workers
Through unintelligent schools and systems.
We have destroyed the intelligence of man
Still expecting to perform intelligently.

I am tired of holding up a professional face.
I am no professional to put up a facade.
I cannot act like I am working. It is done.
I can't think of business to perform as well.

Maybe a routine work will be good somehow.
Keep repeating a task like a mantra.
I may get into a trance with such a work
And keep doing that work like a pro.

What if my soul gets tired with repetition
And I need a sense of inspiration?
Where will we look for inspiration in this world?
Trying to make humanity into a giant office place?

Sign in at 10. Sign out in the evening. Later the better.
Why do we agree to such systems in the first place?
We cannot eat and sleep without trying such things
Maybe we are cursed as a species to do this.

I could make art whole day if I want to.
But, who wants to buy art and enjoy life?
We have our good times to sacrifice to office.
Keep sending emails and messages around.

Maybe my insides are crying for a release?
Is death the only way out of such a misery?
I don't want to be a productive machine anyway.
I just like to sit and watch the world turn around!
