I shed my skin amongst a dune
The only one I've ever had
Attacking & cracking my cocoon
This was more than a taboo tad
I thought it happened in ill-health
Found shrivelled up on the floor
Reflecting, I did not know myself
Or see myself this way before
Looking now at what had sagged
My new appearance felt quite weird
Gratitude had truly lagged
To the point it disappeared
But lives do not come in nines
The laid law of the jungle spoke
Nature's business is none of mine
One with change cannot be broke
Starting off as speckled dots
My colour would outshine the pale
I'm not a leopard tied to spots
I grew into a larger scale
