Skating Poem by D.N. Rebb

Skating

Rating: 5.0

With mischievous cheeks so rosy
And transparent ice as thick as thieves
A song is playing in my head
As we clasp one hand mutually

That heavyset turtleneck sweater
Conceals the dread under cover
An attempt at the bunny hop fails
While you are negligent to others

You set ashore on your tender rear
And tumble like a house of cards
Apology to the little boy
Who shrugs and glides away backwards

I try to present you a hand up
But we both sharply fall in the same place
You give me a quick kiss on the nose
Impishly pull the toque over my face

By the time I get my vision back
You are off, blading for some need
Pushing one foot at a time
To acquire more and more speed

And you are flourishing
Just until you turn around
To see where you left me
And, you are once again down
