Six Miles Away
The wind moved with a thunderous roar 
Violently ringing the bells 
On the east side of the house 
Then suddenly quieting 
As the winds changed 
Now coming from the west 
I watched as the night 
Swiftly flew across the sky 
And the moon occasionally 
Peeked out here and there 
Only to be hidden again by the clouds 
I've always known where you lived 
Just six miles down the road 
A little off the beaten path 
And though it's been three years 
Since you had left 
I have thought about those six miles 
You have never called 
Or answered my letters 
And I have always looked for you 
Around and about town 
But your life has always gone north 
And mine south 
While you sleep 
Somewhere down a beaten path 
About six miles away
