Simple Things (English Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

Simple Things (English Sonnet)

Simple things do catch my mind and my eye:
I see green leaves stir as the wind do blow,
above the cloudless sky the moon is high
and huge and pure-white above it does glow

still higher it does slowly with time go
passing the lives of millions of people bye,
not noticing their happiness or woe
while it does effect the tides from the sky

and when you are from me so far away,
it seems that sincere love does not last,
filled with great emptiness is each day
and my times of joy is now in the past,

but around me people live with hope and fear,
anguish and happiness we do not hear.
