Shut All The Windows Poem by Eli Spivakovsky

Shut All The Windows

flowers close-up their petals
miles of flowers
all cold now
my windows
'come back, come back' I rouse them in their beds
'Have you forgotten me? '
Then I walk on
a bird trapped in a strawberry patch
the boys (cousins) pick at its lifeless body with a stick
'Be alive again, save me', I rouse her
But her wings are calm and tired
So I walk on the narrow path
until I come across
You
and you are at your piano
and you don't notice I am on a very steep path
and I say 'Play Rachmaninov'
but you are hung up on Chopin
and time travel
I'm walking away from my youth
away from you
towards stars and super-novas
there is an asterisk on my mouth
'Give me another chance',
You must steal a flower, a feather, a piano key
then travel through time
Just don't fall in love with a time-traveller like I did
who knows how to shut windows
each window has a parallel
block the parallels and you and I are together forever in time
In time, the flowers speak again, 'we are good at being beautiful, the Sun aches across us, be a flower'
So I ask the Sun to be my timekeeper again
and I travel in orbit
with all the planets
far away from you
I gave you my shadow
