The mighty Fall is of course Niagara. This poem was originally entitled 'The Indian Girl', and later by Emma Roberts, 'Horseshoe Falls'. Although Landon would no doubt have read something of Indian lore this setting is one of her 'other' ones. Startled Fawn has essentially a female creative role - firstly she saves the white man from death and secondly she engenders Indian songs, which may imply that she is herself a poet. Even her suicide, in Landon, can be taken as a positive, creative act. (No, Letitia did not commit suicide, she died of a fatal heart condition)

an entire movie scrunched into a poem...albeit a very sad one.. beautifully crafted the hopelessness of unrequited love and the loss to the world of a beautiful maiden

It's a nice narrative poem about a story of a fated girl; lovebird, I like it.
