I call her on the phone
I ask, are you alone?
She answers, yes I am
I say, I’ll be right over
She says, oh please hurry
I need a gentle hug
One that will put me at ease
I knock on her door
Before I enter she knows the score
She whispers, come on in
She asks, how have you been?
I said, that I’m fine, how about you?
She says, I’m still the same
When you’re gone my hearts in pain
I take her in my arms
Knowing she’ll hurt some more
When I leave to walk out the door
But as I go to leave
She grabs me by the sleeve
She asks, please can’t you stay
Until the darkness goes away
I said, you know how it is
I have someone back at home
She cries as she asks me
Please don’t leave me alone
But once again out the door I go
It’s time for me to leave
Once again she’s left alone
In her bed to silently grieve
