Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer's Day, Pm Justin Trudeau?

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day, PM Justin Trudeau?
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
With this Shakespearean quote, I shall bring, dear reader, your attention
To the bright sunshine which brings its rays of light onto the country of Canada
Under the PMship of Justin Trudeau who has, as Arif Virani, MP, informs me in a newsletter
Enabled Canada to announce new legislation to protect vulnerable workers in federally regulated sectors
And facilitated Canada to announce a federal plan to fight climate change by putting a price on pollution
Which says the lesser we pollute, the lesser we pay,
And orchestrated Canada to begun to implement a strategy to fight poverty and homelessness;

This is a poem for literature addicts and I am quoting from Graham Greene's The End of the Affair
"A story has no beginning or end; arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience
From which to look back or from which to look ahead"
And I shall look at Justin Trudeau's story which I read in his book, Common Ground,
Written before he became Prime Minister
And if I were to choose his pivotal experience, from which he has never looked back,
It is the time when he skied down the slope as a two year old because his father decided that he must be an outdoorsman
Or does it even begin before that when he first uttered his gurgling sounds and began to take his first steps
For his Prime Minister father had decided that he had to follow in his footsteps
And looking ahead for him, I say that Canada is headed in the right direction, Positive Change
Over a wide range of policies;

I shall quote from Margaret Atwood's Cat's Eye: "Time is not a line but a dimension,
Like the dimensions of space"
It suffices to say that Canada was not boxed into a square
During the time of PM Trudeau and we still have 10 months left of his term
But was free to mould itself into a "spiritual dimension" worthy of the progress
And positive change associated with the 21st century;

Looking back on my own life, I remember the 1996 Atlanta Olympics had an impact
On my way of thinking because Donavan Bailey showed us Canadians
That you have to be the best to win
And this is the philosophy of outright winners
And he led the Canadian relay team to a gold medal in the 4 x 100 m
And the original mantra of the Greek founder members
Became true for physical beauty and perfection were rewarded
Not to mention hard work and training;

I spoke about the bright sunshine brought on by Justin Trudeau's liberal government
But I shall dwell a little on my year in Ottawa in 2002-2003
When my son's age ranged from a lovely 3.75 year old to a spirited 4.75 year old
When the cold of winter had come upon my thriving career days in unjust haste
And the Canadian Winterlude Festival brought colour to the white, barren landscape in my professional life
And filled my son and I and a neighbouring female friend, Archana, with happiness
And we ate maple fudge, my son danced with glee at the thought of a buggy ride which we took
And spent the rest of the time enjoying the view in the restaurant with French fries and coffee;

It is Jan 2019 and if the wintry days ahead literally bring us comfort
For they give us time to cherish our loved ones
And hold those who have had an early demise close to our heart
And spend time with our friends and bring out the best in our creative selves
They also bring hope in my life for a walk in the snow undeterred by the softness and slowness of my steps
For where I used to stride with surefootedness, I am now wont to cajole with my graceful mince.
