Shaking Rugs In The Rain Poem by Cat Hodgson

Shaking Rugs In The Rain

I didn't want to go to church today.
You see they line up all the mothers up front to give a flower,
I don't mind the flower I actually love them!
But then they want you to say a little something.
the first lady tells how all her children are doing God's work!
The next lady tells how she was raised in Africa because her family was missionaries.
Praise the Lord and so it goes on.
I'm praising the Lord here today.
I think of the struggles our family has had!
I am just happy we made it through!
I think I will just stay here and shake my rugs.
It's raining hard!
The dirt joins with the rain and falls to the ground.
My rugs are getting pretty clean: they will look nice on my floor
I'm sure I'm not the only mother who feels like shaking rugs today!
I'm pretty sure David's mom didn't feel like going to church on Mother's Day!
But God said he was a man after His own heart!
Sam, his mom sure would have loved that flower!
The job he done there at the end, Wow!
So, I'll just stay home and shake my dirty rugs.
I'll watch the dirt join with the rain drops.
It will settle in my flower garden in the front.
I'll get some flowers to plant in it this week.
The dirt will feed them and they will grow!
I will look back at this rainy day with a smile.
I'll remember the day I stayed home to
shake my rugs in the rain
I'll rejoice in the beautiful flowers in my garden!
I'll think of the dust from my rugs,
The ones I stayed home to shake in the rain.
