Shadows On The Streets Poem by Yousif Ibrahim Abubaker Abdalla

Shadows On The Streets

In the stillness of the streets where shadows linger, a sixteen year old found himself at a crossroads. A man, his eyes dark and foreboding, brought a fear that shadowed every moment. The elder, vibrant and full of life, was suddenly struck down by a blow that was both sharp and merciless. A knife flashed in the night, piercing deep during a deadly struggle. Sirens wailed, the streets alive with chaos, as they rushed to save, but it was too late for survival. Quick hands seized the fleeing figure, justice reclaiming the weapon. Yet, sorrow hangs heavy in the air, hearts still aching for the lives shattered in the aftermath. The youth, so young and consumed by rage, now walks in grief where angels fear to tread. In these quiet streets, the story lingers on, a tragic reminder of a life forever changed.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM: The poem was written on Monday,23 March 2026. This poem is a reflection on how fragile youth can be when faced with violence, and how a single moment of anger or fear can leave lasting scars. It is more than a story of crime, it is a meditation on grief, justice, and the heavy weight life places on the young. By using metaphorical imagery, I wanted to make the story universal, so the sorrow, shock, and moral burden resonate far beyond any one place or name. It is a lament for broken lives, lost innocence, and the shadows that linger long after the night has passed.
