Shadows Of Life Poem by Starfish ZA

Shadows Of Life

The shadows of life press down on me,
like a heavy fog that won't lift,
the memories are chains around my chest,
tugging me back, weighing my every step.
I cannot accept reality as it is—
trying to live my life my way.
What is happiness? I don't know happiness,
where do I go wrong?
Is there someone I can reach out to?
Why do the echoes of your absence
fill my days with aching silence?

Don't cast your shadows over me anymore,
Take them away—let me breathe in the light.
Hold my hand, lead the way,
help me, make me wise,
take away the shadows of life.

You're the closest to understanding me—
with you, my feelings are free.
All my darkest fears
seem to dissolve, like mist at dawn.
Why is life so cruel
to separate us for this time?
My fears, once more a reality,
this loneliness without you—

Don't cast your shadows over me anymore,
Take them away—let me breathe in the light.
Hold my hand, lead the way,
help me, make me wise,
take away the shadows of life.

And if the shadows never leave,
I will learn to dance in their embrace,
finding peace in the space between the dark and light.
