I think things have improved since Jeanette's era but she did succeed after a long struggle. She didn't have the help of Gender reassignment groups etc. It took a great deal of courage. The great thing was that she was happy to have done it. She died about seven years ago. The operation took place over 40 years ago. I think Miss Anne was a bit previous with her remark as I understand it took quite a time to heal and a satisfactory result was achieved. Jeannette had her faults but my wife and I got on with her and visited her quite often. She was a successful business woman and this enabled her to afford the cost of surgery.
