Sesame Closed Forever Poem by Alexandre Nodopaka

Sesame Closed Forever

30 years ago facing early
or later retirement decisions
I calculated the dollars
in my treasure chest
and the number of concerned
thoughts all jammed
in that trunk.

Those were the Ali Baba times.
The days of the
Denny's Grand Slam Special

Two eggs, sunny side up
with sausage or ham
and a stack of pancakes
priced on special at a dollar
and 99 cents.

That already was 100% higher
than when my buddy George
and I would get together
for the same Grand Slam order
priced at.99 cents.

We'd stuff ourselves
with pancakes and coffee
as our ashtrays filled with
cigarette butts while we joked
about arts and farts.

Now the Grand Slam is 9.49
What happened to.99?
Is that gone also?
Besides, George is gone forever
and I never eat there anymore.

Sesame Open Thyself
has closed forever.
