Alas, I cannot read French to appreciate how you brought the venerable Irish bard into another community of
poetry lovers. But I applaud you for carrying the weight a long time (that is, the challenge of getting it right in French) . Being Irish in background, I consider poetry in general as one of ancestral things given to me. For many years I have been haunted by this Yeats passage:
Those images that yet,
Fresh images beget,
That dolphin-tor n, that gong- tor mented sea.
Translating 16 Dead Men into French wasn't such a weight to carry; nor such a feat. ;)
But translating Easter 1916 into Arabic and Japanese has brought me though pains.
