The other night, when thought had banished sleep
I dreamt of what I'd say, of your replies
Recalled your smiling face and dancing eyes
Could I rewind the night, this dream to keep?
When, yawning, dawn at last began to creep
Over the distant hills, to blaze the skies
While I, reflecting on my hopes, with sighs
Remembered how such thoughts once made me weep
But now the light is here and in a while
Past, in a blur, another day will race
While I just sit here, silent, as on trial
And which of these do you see as my style
The waiting, contemplating your fair face
Or speaking, seeking after your sweet smile?
