I wouldn't have known of so many varieties of rice, had I not read this informative poem of yours, Kumarmani. Thanks for describing them all. I remember, in our childhood we used to go to our village home from the city we lived in, every December, when the schools used to give us long vacations after the year-end exams. My grandma used to grow and keep a small quantity of Basmati rice only for us, which we used to relish.

Rice is the staple food of Indians! Rice with curry is preferred to most other foods by us. Only by reading your poem, I have come to know that there is such a wide variety among rice grains! In our place.. i.e Kerala, they may be known by other names. Basmati rice is aromatic and is preferred by most people, especially in making fried rice and 'biriyani'! Loved reading your poem. Rice is limelite and main food in India. In holy worship rice is used in both raw and cooked form. Aromatic rice is given much importance during festivals. In Bengal Govinda Bhoga rice is offered to Lord Krishna! Being his aunt I too prrepare Karpurkanti Rice for my child Lord! ..Hare Krishna..Hare Krishna!
