Nice ode to rice. The varieties you list out are special to Kalinganadu, your State. Some of them like Samba (Champa) Jeerakasala are known to Kerala also. Good poem. 'Annam Na Nindhyaad'. Thus goes the Vedic saying- meaning every consumable is God's gift. Rice, for we Indians, is the prime symbol of 'ANNAM' 5 stars

I wouldn't have known of so many varieties of rice, had I not read this informative poem of yours, Kumarmani. Thanks for describing them all. I remember, in our childhood we used to go to our village home from the city we lived in, every December, when the schools used to give us long vacations after the year-end exams. My grandma used to grow and keep a small quantity of Basmati rice only for us, which we used to relish.

are all the flavoured rice scents still to buy? Several aims, the gods in the temples except own daily food for human stomach. A very complete arsenal of digestive delicious rice, what a wealth, what a richdom! I have enjoyed a very lot this very interesting poem. fantastically worded.5 Stars Full Vote! I only know Basmati rice to eat and Jasmine scented rice, all white rice. Indonesia has one rice product which is the best in the world in quality, its name is Cianjur rice, the name of its area.

Hard work by the agriculturist pays off finally, it is the scent of their hard work, labor and dedication to produce and serve. We eat Basmati rice by enjoying its flavor and aroma sitting in our air conditioned dinning hall whereas they slog under the sun, wet land and full hardship. Your poem is a tribute to their hard work and labor. Brilliant thinking....Salute to your keen observation.100*****

Rice is the staple food of Indians! Rice with curry is preferred to most other foods by us. Only by reading your poem, I have come to know that there is such a wide variety among rice grains! In our place.. i.e Kerala, they may be known by other names. Basmati rice is aromatic and is preferred by most people, especially in making fried rice and 'biriyani'! Loved reading your poem. Very informative!

Rice is limelite and main food in India. In holy worship rice is used in both raw and cooked form. Aromatic rice is given much importance during festivals. In Bengal Govinda Bhoga rice is offered to Lord Krishna! Being his aunt I too prrepare Karpurkanti Rice for my child Lord! ..Hare Krishna..Hare Krishna!
