All were expectant and gay A guest—a new face A design—a new race Through the layers of blood and clay on appearing in flesh one day....... You named me ‘light’ in delight Sin is to slay a soul before it rears Altar of frozen progeny Stood a figure for mutiny Kill not show some mercy I am life—I am beauty Save me – I am beauty A prayer—a seed of maternity I want to thrive—a light I want to live—my right what can i say my dear Poetess. it is soo beautiful. you have brought out the complexities of the life of a girl in India. Unfortunately- - it is so. we poets should begin a campaign to punish all those who kill in the womb. it is a crime... a great crime against women of the whole world and against humanity. God bless you dear Poetess

As a father of two daughters, who are the gems in my life, I just cannot comprehend how someone can kill an unborn foetus, just because it is a girl. Yet, sadly, it is the norm in many parts of India and possibly elsewhere. But your poem has beautifully portrayed your anguish over this.

Fantastic poem, Soumita! Yes every girl should be born, they are on an equal footing with boys! There is absolutely no reason for not letting them live! They are the beginning of all life in this world, without them no boy would ever be born, not a single person would have a son if not for being a female. How utterly inhumane this disgusting practice is! If it wasn't for the male planting his seed there would be no baby, boy or girl! ! The mother bears both boys and girls, nourishes and cares for them 9 months, If men would stop getting women pregnant then at least girls would not be dying. This sin lies on the man only it looks like. Thank you for getting this message out Soumita, everyone should know this truth of inhumanity being perpetrated on girl babies only. RoseAnn
