The marriage proposal by Maharaja Santanu of Hastinapura to a poor fisherwoman for his daughter, Satyawati's hand in marriage has been astutely and hauntingly inscribed here. I cite..For a poor fisherwoman, / It was a great honour / To be asked in marriage / By the king of Hastinapura. Beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing.

This marriage of Emperor Santanu with Satyawati is the very beginning of the saga called Mahabharata

WoW! A poor fisherman doesn't immediately jump up and down in joy when a king asks for his daughter's hand in marriage? He is a very brave fisherman and treasures his daughter sooooooooooooooo very much. Can't wait to read the next installment! ! !

Hi Susie, The answer is simple. Please see what Satyawati says. She does not acknowledge that she has another suitor. She says, : : now my body has another suitor: : . Her father already knows her well.
