3. The Island
Back in the same island
Where Parasaran took me
The rude shocking memories
Almost killed me.
But the entire island
Abounded in wild flowers
Like a rainbow of colors
And fragrance so sweet and dear.
Sweet songs of birds
It was spring round the year
Once we started our home
Dogs and cats came to live with us.
Clear waters in the little lagoon
Abounded in fish of all kinds
Which I took to watching
Made my days cheerful.
Above all father's love
And his care removed
All the harsh memories
And I enjoyed my tiny life.
How days passed, I didn't know.
I was looking forward to have my first born.
This is the first time I have read a Satyawati series. I just read it without going through with the first. Yet, the story is spellbinding that I just continue to read this series. A wonderful epic. So vividly portrayed. As if a reader is transported to that island so beautiful and self sufficient. Beautifully written.
Hi Rose Marie, Thank you for visiting the page and posting the wonderful observations. I am obliged. The story is picked up from the epic Mahabharata, as I have mentioned in my notes. I have taken a poet’s liberties here and there, and moved away a little from the epic. I have given notes, which I think, is adequate for a person new to the ancient Indian culture and epics to enjoy the story. Satyawati is the Great Grandmother of both Pandavas and Kauravas.
Unikrishnan Ji you have a great talent to write an epic. I shall read more as and when I get time.
We should all have an island like this to mend our soul. The beauty of it is balm for the soul. My friend, you have such story writing skills! I am a confirmed fam of this story in verse style! !
Thank you Susie. Obliged. But, now we may not find a place like this!

Wherever kind hearts resides, there too you're sure to find beautiful creatures such as dogs and cats. Wonderfully written....100+++++
