Sarina Poem by Joe Sadeghloo

Sarina

Sarina is my grandniece,
The Astraea, the goddess of innocence and justice,
This is going to be her first New Year!
So will it be for millions of other baby girls and baby boys!

Will tsars, kaliphs, kings and queens,
The mighty rich and powerful, the owners of the world
The mighty business moguls and their media
The mighty men of politics and their armies,
The mighty men of cloth and their followers

Will they stop their bloody chess games of wars
And start promoting peaceful and inclusive societies,
Creating communities where all Sarinas, all children of God,
In every corner of the world
Feel safe, respected, loved and valued!
