I took a salamander from Nature, against the critter's will.
I set it in a shallow dish of water, not far from a window sill,
....inside our kitchen, on a counter, near the kitchen sink.
While I went elsewhere, for a 'few' minutes, away it did slink.

What a wonderful poem with nice rhyme. Your love for animals / nature is beautifully depicted in this well crafted write.
Fantastic poem, great that its a harmless salamander escaped, must be a sweet pet. Kudos for this enjoyable poem!
Thanks, ....but.... it was not meant to be a pet. It bothered me some that I was not able to return it to 'THE WILD'. I only wanted to share Nature with my wife for a few seconds. bri : )
Were the oases created by your wife for the salamander? Did it return to Oases?
I was, basically, the sole creator; the 'oases' have been dismantled. : )
I think... I think... I think it slithered down the sink. You will see little Sal no more; he's in the septic tank for sure!
If 'Sally' (not, 'Sal'; it surely WAS a female; I checked her out) did slink into the sink I think the screen covering the drain hole would stop her. In the hardware store 'they' said: 'This screen's a 'Sally'-stopper.
Why not have your wife name it Jimmy? Maybe it will show up then. Oh, wait --- Sal would be a better name.
Nice thought, Kim! I KNOW you've read my Bye Bye Jimmy poem from years ago about the deer which died on my wife's former property.
subtlety sŭt′l-tē noun The quality or state of being subtle. Something subtle, especially a nicety of thought or a fine distinction. Same as subtilty,1.
Sorry, Unnikrishnan, there is NO prize (except the joy of reading my poem) for being the first to comment. ; ( I think you 'want' 'subtlety', a noun, not 'subtle' (pronounced 'suttle') .
BUT....I thank Unnikrishnan and all other readers for taking the time to read and comment. THANKS! ! : )
Good one. Enjoyed the humour. Bri, your usual subtle makes the poem really enjoyable. Loved it. Top score.
Despite your negligence in not putting the salamander in a better place, still there is an effort on your part to show care for the animal. A nice lesson imparted to us readers.
