Sailing By Different Boats Poem by Richmon Rey Jundis

Sailing By Different Boats

I don't need to prove what I believe IN
And prove THAT your belief is wrong
Because we are not riding on the same boat.
We can peacefully agree to disagree.

I will never insist that the violent waves
In this vast ocean of life
Are just challenges from the God that I believe in
Since you cannot feel it
As you lavishly enjoy your business-class room in that fancy cruise
While I shakingly fear the storm
Here in this tiny boat made of wood and bamboo.
So, please, let us just peacefully agree to disagree.

You always insist that there is no God
Behind the roaring dark sky
and that the only way that can save
This ephemeral life of mine
Is to cling to the advancements and powers
Of this fleeting world of facts,
But I do believe in my faith
For it will allow me to walk on the waters.

You will never understand me because we are not riding in the same boat,
But I do understand why you see things like that,
And I will never insist on my belief IN
And insist THAT your belief is shallow
For it never values the emotions
And what is beyond the factual propositions.
So, please, let us just peacefully agree to disagree.

I don't need to prove my belief in the essential things
That are invisible in the eyes,
I don't need to prove that believing factual things
Are too easy compared to believing in
What eyes cannot see.
