SHIRDI SAI BABA
In Maharashtra, Saint Gadge Maharaj,
His other name Saint Guzadi Maharaj,
Was serving there in a provision store
At Sivagaon Pathadi Market Centre.
One day, Saint Sai Baba came there,
Begged for a roti from the owner,
But none was prepared to give him,
He picked up corn from a ripe farm.
Gadge then, on leave, went home,
Took a homemade roti for him,
Went in search of him everywhere
And found him inside a jungle there.
When Sai Baba asked why he came?
He replied that he wanted to give him
A Roti when none spared him one,
Sai Baba put one more question then.
"Whatever I demand will you give? "
He replied, "Except money, I don't have,
You may ask me for any other thing, "
With all humbleness, he was offering.
Sai Baba asked for his life then.
He offered it with no hesitation.
Baba blessed him with raised hands
To indicate his spiritual readiness.
At Shirdi when Gadge went to meet,
Sai Baba, who was then taking rest,
Got very much wild and shouted at him
Why he came there at that odd time?
Sai Baba suddenly threw a brick,
That hit his brow with a crescent mark,
Thus as a Sadguru, he was initiated,
And by Baba's hands, he was blessed.
Baba's rudeness on the surface
Was, in fact, a blessing in disguise,
As Sri Gadge Maharaj became
A great Sadguru for all the time.
The same Sadguru had left behind
Several of his initiated devotees,
Charitable and educational institutions
In Gujarat and Maharashtra States.
