SHIRDI SAI BABA

Sai Baba gave medicines at first,
To the sick people free of cost,
And served the helpless patients,
Who had no nurses by their sides

Once when he found that a patient
Failed to observe the rules of diet,
He stopped then giving medicines,
But gave only ‘Udi, ' the holy ashes,

OneGanpat Hari Kande by name
With acute fever and leprosy came,
And Sai Baba then asked him to get
A live poisonous cobra for his treatment.

With its poison he prepared medicine
Which the patient Ganpat had taken,
And found very good improvement,
When the medicine began to act.

Further treatment Sai Baba stopped
As the patient had not followed
His advice to avoid sex pleasures,
That acted against the medicines.

He didn't thereafter recover
As the disease developed further.
And he died for his failure finally,
To follow Baba's advice strictly.

Another patient, Bhagoji, had a fever,
Leading to his death, sooner or later,
By Sai Baba's hot iron treatment,
With medicine, he escaped from it.

Sai Baba stayed for three years,
And suddenly vanished to a place
But where not known to anyone,
All waiting daily for his return.

They just heard that he went
To see Ali, a Moslem Saint,
With whom he stayed earlier,
At Ahmednagar, somewhere.

He came back after three years,
And stayed at Shirdi for 60 years
Till 1918, when he was laid to rest
In his Holy Mahasamadhi, at last.
