Very clever. At first I thought it was an extended metaphor for someone who was locked in their own world like the lady who lived next door and went into hospital. Then I thought it was a prisoner in jail and finally I saw your comment at the end and saw it was a comment on animal cruelty. Brilliant! ! !
No colour, no life, not even mine. This line more or less sums up the helplessness of the laboratory rat.
