Ruho Qadisho. Poem by Dr. Antony Theodore

Ruho Qadisho.

Just a breath and a breeze.

Breath means life,
breeze that cools in the heat.
Violent storm that roars
and whirls everything
up and around.

The Holy Spirit
is ‚Ruho qadisho‘.

In it we find
the Hebrew word Ruâh,
which is feminine
and means wind
and breath and
sometimes in the
First Testament also spirit.

It is the spirit power of God.
This third person
of the Trinity, who is
so incomprehensible
and hardly representable,
we can only present
with pictures of
tongues of fire
and a dove and
also with a figure
that is fine, delicate
and feminine.

That is Ruâh.

(In Aramaic,
in the language of Jesus,
which is still spoken
today by the Aramaic
Christians in Syria and Iraq,
the Holy Spirit means:
Ruho qadisho) .
