Roy Hargrove Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

Roy Hargrove

Roy Hargrove
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
We saw two fine musicians in New York City in the summer of 2017
Clarence Seedy was a treat to listen to in Terra Blues of Greenwich Village
And Roy Hargrove was simply electrifying in the Blue Notes of Greenwich Village
Roy died in the fall of 2018 and this is my tribute to him
He was a fine trumpet player who sounded so musical with it
That he made it sing like a saxophone
And had clear notes in his singing
He made the evening come alive with his band of musicians
And Wikipedia tells me that he has won two Grammys
And was a team player for the album, Like Water for Chocolate
His high notes have a lilting beat to them
And he sounds simply beautiful.
