Romance (Lyrics for An Art Song)
I shall build you a home
by the faraway clear murmuring stream
where the birds blithely sing and the winds freely roam
where your tender face will be lit by every moon-beam.
I shall build you a dream
more resplendent than the most alluring rainbow
blessed by every starlet's gentle gleam
wherein our love will never cease to glow.
I shall wake with you upon the dawn
hand-in-hand walk with laughter to our lush waiting farm
where we shall grow wheat and corn
by sunset to return arm-in-arm.
I shall sing a song for you at twilight
as your nimble fingers work upon dinner
I shall behold your eyes so loving and bright
long after the midnight hours are over.
