River said,
I flow on like time,
always moving, never still.
I said,
"What are you flowing for, my river? "
It said,
"Nothing. I just can't stay still."
I said,
"You've got command for that."
It said,
"It's in my genes—I gotta
keep going.
Knapsack? No sack. Doesn't matter—
just me and my journey."
I said,
"Well, it costs you nothing.
Everything has value by you;
and He made everything living
by you—water.
Don't you want to settle
down sometimes? "
It said,
"Nope."
My eyes fixed on the sea,
not the desert.
My face to the sea
from which I start
and restart.
No end, no rest.
Every day I am engaged
in some affair.
