Riding By Walls Of Snow Poem by Deanna Samuels

Riding By Walls Of Snow

With the recent blizzard passed
and local roads cleaned up,
the sun was shining, beckoning -
what's keeping one from a ride?

The temperature, mind you,
was well below fifteen C
but that sun was gleaming
and the sky so clear a blue.

That's it, going for a ride,
get some fresh air and Vit D
so donned three layers
and two pairs of fleecy tights.

By the time one dressed
and shoed up with fleece boots,
felt like a space astronaut
and the Michelin man for tires.

Anyway, woke up the e-trike
and brought that to life,
steered out of the garage
over icy drive and onto the road.

Yes, it was cold but air so fresh,
made body tingle throughout
and steered off around local site
passing walls of snow alongside.

It was exhilarating to be out there
witnessing the newness of scene
of gardens under three feet of snow,
bushes almost disappeared.

Tree boughs held fresh white fluffs
while sun rays streaked through
enhancing the brightness,
giving a shimmering, sparkling view.

Sidewalks, some cleaned, others not
but too dangerous to ride upon
so kept to mainly cleared roads
though manipulated pools of slush.

Biking around the neighborhood
saw most drives were swept up
and as for cars, a few almost buried
as evidently not in current use.

Rewards were great during this ride,
even heard chirping birds, such a treat
and went by local forest to stop and
lay morsels for wood creatures to feed.

There, too, the children's playground,
swings, chutes and climbing rails
half peeping out from beneath the snow,
not a footprint towards them to mar.

With roofs and gardens covered in white
it gave a scene of a winter wonderland,
a local magical vista of rare occurrence
and had the opportunity to witness it so.
