Rice Is Not Pure! Poem by Kishore Kumar Das

Rice Is Not Pure!

Our staple food rice
full of arsenic
thanks to use of
widespread pesticides
inviting carcinogens
everything was unheard for long
till research is done
' Soak the rice overnight
before cooking
to drive away arsenic '
the recent health bulletin preaches
why not told earlier?
that's the problem with our science
science improves the process
at the cost of diseases
and science develops the medicines
to counteract the diseases
in this vicious circle
mankind bears the brunt of experiment
Is our innovation
eco-friendly?
Do we aim for
the good health of people?
Purity, a nightmare today.
