Now he is no more in the dark;
he just did it all for a lark.
Such a joy he can speak,
and it just took a week,
but now he forgot how to bark!

An old dog who was learning to speak
Had to practice for more than a week,
But now he can say,
'Hello' and 'Good day'
In Portuguese, Russian, and Greek.

a commendable poem, but NOT excessively commendable. Ha ha. I'd type " it took just a week" . i KNOW, it means the SAME thing, but..... bri :) Ah! Now i checked out 'limerick' structure. Nice 88668, with nice rhyming, but it took a 2nd reading for me to figure out " in the dark" is used as an idiom.
Ha Ha Ha! I like your reply to my limerick. Very clever indeed.

That was good. Now I will have to see what she wrote. 'Schools and many businesses were closed today because of high winds.' When global change alarmists and climate change deniers talk, the winds can be ferocious.
