There's a weight upon my shoulders
That gets heavy as I grow older.... with you
While I am sitting, I laid back
In my cotton wool hammock
On the blue mountain strides
Enjoying the cool island hills I smile
My memories took me for miles
To the days when I was a child
I heard mama with the dutchie
Making that sweet island coffee
Then I remember the malt
How they grind that chocolate pod
And how can I forget the bitter susumber
What a taste! I could clearly remember
Then how mama made that coconut oil
From the stale coconut
And then that delicious ackee and codfish! Which many of us call ackee and saltfish
Oh I remember the days
When we used to play...running barefooted in that Island rain
Tek of wi shoes and walk in the mud
Some get beating ‘cause we get wet up
Oh I remember the days!
In that island who bares so much pain
So many crimes and violence
So many innocents that get silenced
How Island in the sun
That land of wood and water that was so fun
If only we would stop and say,
Let's be our brother's keeper, let's ease her
