Reading this poem, I am reminded of a commentary in the Wilhelm translation of the I Ching: 'A twofold possibility is presented to the great man: he can soar to the heights and play an important part in the world, or he can withdraw into solitude and develop himself.' Either can help an individual grow past their limiting horizons; it is to what one is suited.
