Remember me for who I was,
Not who I had become,
Living with an illness like dementia,
Made my mind go numb.
Remember all the good times,
Because my memory may not last,
I may forget who you are,
But remember many years past.
Like an alien in a different skin,
My brain has jumbled everything,
Even though I may seem different,
I am the same person and soul within.
Please forgive me if I forget you,
Because life can be so unkind,
But love is unconditional,
They often say love is blind.
When you pass through to heaven,
I will stand and wait,
The illness will be removed,
I will kiss you at the pearly gate.
