Remember Poem by Alison Mujati

Remember

Chance placed you
To grow deep inside
The womb of a random
Woman you call mother.

Like a seed
You germinate
Fending each day
Receiving and eating.
From it, you became yourself.

Soul searching brought you.
The day conceived
You got a name and personality
Still immature to take it all,
Decisive decisions finally made you.

You took a path,
An anonymous one
Through comfort
You survived the weather,
Thorns encountered just made you strong
It shaped to make you
And you became.

It's not who you are
The shape you obtained now.
This is transformation
A product of what people made you become
It's a slippery slope
As such you won't live there forever.

The process is slow
A tale of hare cooking the mighty baboon.
A senseless sequel
Isn't it,
I will cut the long short.

Look back
Past times when words were null and void,
When they said,
And moments after then you forgot
There, is your destiny,
You knew what you wanted
Followed the path
Lived the dream once
And the world changed you.

Right there, there is hope,
There is image and identity
There is you, there is a way.
Remember that.
