Something about Russia so enthralls me
It seems so faraway, quite a recondite place to be
I'm as entranced by her history of Tsars and Czars
as much as I am by her samovars.
Her famed onion-shaped patterned multi-coloured domes
and where the spirit of communism still roams?
A country neither Western nor Eastern
perhaps kind of Eurasian
Perhaps her popularity
is in her insularity.
Talking of Russia worldwide famous names come to mind:
The names and times of Gorbachev and Lenin
political reigns of Stalin and Yeltsin
and first man in space Soviet Yuri Gagarin.
First woman in space too, Russian Valentina Terekshova
Then in field of literature
Leo Tolstoy appears universal
The red square there famous too for the Kremlin,
found in Russia, the largest country in the world
with names of U.S.S.R or Soviet Union
It shows vast on any map of the world unfurled
